Pom Pom Wreath

I finally got round to buying some pom pom makers! I know you can create a similar thing with a few bits of cardboard, but these are far cooler ūüėõ

I purchased a 4 pack of makers from Hobbycraft for £5, good value for money if you ask me. I then picked up a Wire Wreath Frame for £1, along with a couple of balls of Party Time Chunky Yarn.

For this project I decided to use the 5.5cm (pink) pom pom maker. I found myself spending a few evenings sat in front of the TV churning out one after the other.
One day Robin spotted them all in a bag and wanted to play, sadly that was sort lived due to him throwing them about the room and me wanting to actually do something with them.

The wreath making was pretty simple. I made sure that I had enough yarn on each pom pom when tying them up, so that I could attach them to the wire frame. After a bit of fiddling, I finally created this…

So much fun! Great craft project for kids or adults and perfect for all year round.

Wedding Card – by Rocketlolly

I wanted to take this moment to write about my very talented friend Katy (aka Rocketlolly). Yesterday I went do a friends wedding but before that I really wanted a lovely handmade wedding card to give them. Katy currently has this stunning illustrated postcard print on her Etsy store and even offers to add calligraphy text for an extra small charge. I simply trimmed is a little to fit some A6 kraft card stock and there we have it.

Pack Up! Unboxing

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-dAoTxRBORk]

Whilst playing for Belfast City Rockets, Helen McBride unfortunately broke her leg during training. So not to disconnect from the roller derby community during recovery, she set up a crowd funding campaign to raise money for a roller derby themed subscription box. Helen teamed up with other designers and artists within the community to help launch Pack Up! in May this year.

With a new theme every month, each pack include 5 items. A monthly rolling subscription costs £23 per month, but there is also an option of a One Month Only pack for £25.

**Scroll down to the bottom of this post for a Pack Up! competition**

This months theme was ‘Fresh Meat’. Now, for those of you reading this with no idea what that actually means, it’s the term used for an intake of new skaters.

This is a great subscription box for all who are interested in roller derby (including myself). I’d say it was good value for money based on the quality of the contents. And I’m sure each box will improve with new designers and artist Helen comes across.

Boxcite_Inside

My box arrived safe and sound two days after it was sent. Large letter sized kraft box secured with Boxcitement tape. It was a delight to open, with an information card attached to the inside of the lid and well packed contents with tissue paper confetti, I couldn’t wait to delve in!

First item I opened was a small square golden envelope, containing a stylish leather wrap bracelet.

Boxcite_Braclet

Next was a handcrafted clay decoration with ‘Hello Sunshine’ embossed in sunshine yellow with a contrasting blue ribbon to hang¬†wherever you wish.

Boxcite_Clay

Some useful metallic ribbon to add to my ribbon box, ideal for crafting our gift wrapping.

Three exclusive pencils created for this months theme, displayed on a lovely card with the words ‘ Some days you just have to create your own sunshine’. Perfect for the handy ‘Dream Catcher’ project handbook. Also there is a mindfulness colouring print to enjoy whilst sat in the garden one summers evening (or in my case the balcony :P)

Can I just say that I love that even the packaging for the items has been thought about too! The envelope for the notecards has the design from the clay decoration stamped on in gold ink! Lovely collection of 4 notecards with various designs.

And finally, a ‘Lunch in the sun’ lunch bag which I will certainly be using from now on! Beautifully printed with god ink on a canvas bag.

Scoff Box Unboxing

Scoff Box is a new monthly subscription box for those who love retro and classic sweets! Each month they package up and post you an impressive selection for anyone with a sweet tooth.Screen Shot 2016-04-13 at 11.54.43Subscription starts from £12.99 for one month, with 3 and 6 month prepay and gift options also available.

I must admit when my box arrived, I was surprised¬†at how big it was. Once inside, all of the sweets were bundled together with yellow tissue paper and yellow ribbon. When I removed these to see what treats were there, I was amazed by the amount you got. ¬£12.99 might seem more expensive than some other boxes, however you certainly get value for month that’s for sure! Also it’s free shipping!

Other than the Chocolate Honeycomb and the Jelly Babies, all of the other sweets are new to me. Sadly I’m not a fan of Reese’s Pieces, but the husband can have those. Very much looking forward to digging into these, I would say they will keep me going for a while but my husband does have a very sweet tooth. Might have to ration him.

In conclusion, this is a really good box and you won’t be disappointed by it’s contents.

Check out their Facebook page for an exclusive 20% off your first box (ends 11th May)

Surprise Box Club Unboxing

Firstly, huge thanks to the wonderful Triinu from Surprise Box Club, for sending me one of her surprise boxes to review.

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H2KV5_l6M10]

Surprise Box Club is a subscription box for existing and new crafters. Each month you will receive an exclusive jewellery kit and vintage craft kit straight to your door. But you’ll also receive the tools to help you with your jewellery kit, which is a unique bonus if you’re just starting out.

Surprise Box Club Review

My box arrived in a mail bag and I was pretty excited when I pulled it out. I¬†really like the ‘happy mail’ sticker, cute little touch.¬†The contents was beautifully presented with the tools¬†securely¬†attached to the lid of the box and the¬†kits/instructions wrapped in tissue paper. The excitement continued to grow through each new part of the box.

The polkadot paper bags each contained a kit accept from the black bag, which had a very pretty pair of Sterling Silver and Swarovski pearl earrings¬†inside. Now that was certainly a lovely surprise ūüôā The earrings were crafted by¬†Triinu herself, it’s so nice to have a handmade gift from one crafter to another.

Jewellery kit – Strand Crimp Bracelet
Contents: beads, wires, bracelet findings and also the tools to put it all together

Crafty kit – Tassel Garland
Contents: tissue paper and some twine

Full instructions are also included and I can’t wait to get started! Keep a look out on my Instagram as I will certainly post pictures when I’ve made them. The instructions are very detailed and clear to read, which is great for a crafter at any level.

You can start your subscription at £18 per month. Or you can purchase a one off box for £20 or 3 months of boxes at £55. Also postage is free!! Only available within the UK at the moment.

For two kits with full instructions, tools and a little surprise gift I think its good value for money. Sometimes there isn’t time to go out and buy bits for a project, also it’s hard to even think of what to craft next.

Katie Abey Leggings

Katie has become a favourite illustrator of mine over the last year or so. I just adore her designs, so quirky and cute.¬†But it was late last year that I noticed leggings with all of her wonderful characters on were available. And now I can officially say I own a pair ūüôā

They are certainly going to be worn in many roller derby games to come, that’s for sure!

IMG_1438

They are available in XS-L from her Etsy store. I’m a UK 6-8 and the XS fits perfectly all over, they are a little long but then again I’m only 5″1. However, this extra length isn’t massively noticeable.

Made from ‘Micro’ fabric which is 95% Polyester and 5% Elastane. They feel great on and are very comfortable, I actually think they are the best quality leggings I own.¬†And at only ¬£20 a pair for leggings¬†100% designed and manufactured in the UK, it’s certainly an amazing deal in my eyes!

Size XS which is UK 6-8 (US 4-6 and Europe 34-36)
Size S which is UK 10-12 (US 8-10 and Europe 38-40)
Size M which is UK 14-16 (US 12-14 and Europe 42-44)
Size L which is UK 18-20 (US 16-18 and Europe 46-48)

Polkadots & Petticoats – Wedding Certificate Box

I’ve been following¬†Polka Dots & Petticoats¬†on Instagram for a while now. There are so many pretty items on Jackie’s store, so many in fact that you’d want to buy it all!
The day I clicked onto her site there was a sale on (we all love a good bargain). I’d been looking for a nice wedding certificate box and just my luck this one appeared. ¬£2.50 I think it was, great deal indeed!
Communication of your order is fantastic, with notifications every step of the way. However, the packaging was the most beautiful packaging I have ever seen! Even the little touches of a Thank You sticker and heart packing tape on the envelope was amazing ūüôā
Once I had opened the envelope, this stunning masterpiece was wrapped in more bubble wrap (no risk of any damage that’s for sure). It felt like I had received a belated Birthday present.
Every park of this packaging was simply adorable. From the ‘Packed by’ sticker, to the free sample of Wax Tart, quote card and the hand written message on the back.
I like to think that I put love and thought into my packaging when I sell any items, but this is simply beyond anything I have ever done.
Jackie, you made my day doing this. Never ever did I expect to receive and online order like this, let alone a sale item!
Thank You
x

Layla Amber: Rose Posy Necklace

In May Layla Amber posted an Instagram picture of a copy of¬†Mollie Makes, along with a beautiful iPhone case which I’m tempted to get.

I happen to work for the publishing company that creates¬†Mollie Makes, so I thought I would drop them an e-mail to mention Layla’s work. Two months later one of Layla’s pictures along with a bit of blurb appeared in their Making Memories section (Issue 29).

The moral of this story really is that Layla messaged me to say Thank You and offered to send me one of her lovely necklaces, today it arrived and it’s just lovely! She sent it with a lovely little note saying ‘ Thank you very much Helen! I hope you love your new necklace! Layla x’ Yes Layla, I do indeed ūüôā
Thank Layla! x
Don’t forget to visit her website, so many lovely items on there to spend your pennies on ūüôā¬†www.layla-amber.co.uk
